It was Valentine’s candy craft day at my house this morning, which led to a sampling of Milk Duds, BB Bats, Bit-O-Honey, Reese’s Pieces, Good & Plenty, and Goobers all before 10 a.m. Sure beats a bowl of Cheerios.

My kids and I started with a brainstorming session and came up with a handful of candy-related sweet sayings, including …

- I’m about to tell you a Whopper. I love you!
- I am such a Goober when I’m around you.
- You’re one Hot Tamale in my book.
- Valentine, let’s Take 5 in New York [Peppermint Patty] City!
- Luv U to [Reese's] Pieces.
- I always have a Good & Plenty time with you.
- Kiss my Whatchamacallit! (All credit goes to neighbor Jenny for this one)

From there, we cut out red hearts from poster board and applied our “sweet nothings” and candy to paper. Snap!

Here are three that my kids made with a teeny-tiny bit of motherly input (see heart #3) …

If you're not into playing "hard to get," this is the Valentine for you.

This box of Milk Duds is empty because we had no self control while candy crafting.

"My kids" made this on behalf of my husband. Wink.

Hope our humble hearts inspire you to create homemade candy greetings for your own sweeties!

There’s a time and a place for everything. Candy is no exception.

So, I was chatting it up with my neighbors again and we got on the topic of road candy, as in the candy you’d pick if you were going on a lengthy road trip. It’s probably not the same candy you’d pick if weren’t heading out on the highway.

For example, if I were driving from Chicago to Minneapolis, I’d buy the giant box of Milk Duds. If I were milling around waiting to pick up a prescription at Walgreens, I’d probably pick up a bag of Dove Promises. Drilling down further, if it was December 1 and I was killing time at Walgreens, I’d pick up Dove Peppermint Bark Bites.

I’m getting off track. My point is that we associate different candies for different environments. I seem to think Car = Milk Duds. Back in her college days, my neighbor said she downed Red Hots and coffee before exams. For her, Library Cubicle = Red Hots. (My neighbor did well in school, so the fiery combo must have worked.)

This all brings me to my next and last point. Thank g-d, right?

At the movie theater, I typically buy (or smuggle in) Twizzlers. while my daughter always gets a box of Nestle Buncha Crunch. Those aren’t our all-time favorite candies, but they are our all-time favorite theater candies.

If you tell us your favorite theater candy after this post, on Facebook, or Twitter, you’ll be entered to win a $25 Candy.com Gift Certificate.

How to enter on Twitter? It’s simple. Just follow these steps:

On Friday, Oct. 22, I’ll post the $25 Candy.com winner and the top 10 theater candies based on all of your Twitter posts. I wonder if Twizzlers will make it into the top 10?
