The fall semester will soon be upon us, and we all know what that means…junk food.  For those of you going off to college for the first time, I am sure you are having a little bit of anxiety about putting on the “Freshman 15”.  Even students returning to school fear packing on the pounds after a summer of working on our beach bods. Keeping the weight off can be tough, especially if your mother is anything like this one and feels the need to constantly be sending you something like this:

Not to worry, there are plenty of more sensible candy options which are no slouches when it comes to taste.  I’ll be highlighting a few of these so you can get the school year started off right!

1. First up: these babies from Brookside. Thirty individually-packaged pouches of divine little candies made with real fruit juice and covered in decadent dark chocolate.  Each pack is chock-full of antioxidants and only 100 calories! Throw a pouch in your bag for a guilt-free snack between classes.

2. Who needs beauty products when you have candy?  These heart-shaped pomegranate/raspberry fruit snacks from Beauty Sweeties contain aloe-vera, collagen and COQ10, a powerful antioxidant. Not to mention Vitamin E, which is great for your complexion.  I definitely recommend that you try these, you’ll thank me later.

3. Can we just take a second to reflect on how ingenious these are?  Imagine this: You’re running to class (post-Starbucks run) with a hot tea and realize, in your haste, you didn’t add any honey!  Good thing you have one of these all-natural Lavender Honey Tea Spoons from the Melville Candy Company with you.  These are great for sweetening up hot beverages or just enjoying as a healthy alternative to a lollipop.  And, if lavender isn’t your “cup of tea”, these cute little spoons also come in Clover Honey and Peppermint.

Of course, exercise and a well-balanced diet are the best way to stay healthy, but that does not mean you have to cut candy out of your life.  College students are generally very busy people, and often times that means unhealthy decisions are made when it comes to food.  Hopefully these products, in addition to the many other all-natural goodies on, will give you some sweet ideas about staying svelte in school.
